Khalid Albaih Joins Curationist Foundation, Expanding Board’s Global Perspective

Newsbyte
Khalid’s term began in February 2025, and we are incredibly fortunate to have him join us for the next two years. Khalid brings not only his sharp creative vision but also a truly global perspective—expanding our Board beyond North America and keeping us grounded in the broader cultural impact of our work. His insights as an artist, cultural commentator, and advocate for open knowledge will be invaluable as we continue to shape Curationist’s mission.
Khalid is an internationally acclaimed Sudanese political cartoonist and civil rights activist whose work has been featured by The Guardian, Al Jazeera, The Atlantic, and more. Under the name “Khartoon!”—a play on cartoon and Khartoum—his illustrations have sparked critical conversations around global justice, authoritarianism, and freedom of expression. His viral work, including the now-iconic image of Colin Kaepernick with an Afro shaped like a raised fist, has resonated with audiences around the world.
Currently based in Copenhagen as part of the International Cities of Refuge Network, Khalid has also served as a fellow at Colby College’s Oak Institute for Human Rights and is the founder of FADAA, an online platform connecting artists and patrons across borders.
At the Curationist Foundation, we strive to connect people with global cultural heritage through open-access tools, metadata innovation, and editorial storytelling. With Khalid’s leadership, we’re excited to deepen our international collaborations, elevate marginalized narratives, and foster ethical cultural stewardship in digital spaces.
Please join us in welcoming Khalid to the Board of Directors!
