About the work
This blue-eyed Joan of Arc, the medieval French military leader, wears armor and carries a sword, marking her as a fighter. Her flowing blond hair, however, marks her as conventionally feminine. The American Kinney Brothers Tobacco Company made this lithograph as part of the “Heroes” series of collectible cards. The appearance of Joan of Arc in a marketing ploy indicates her ubiquity as a myth.
